A snow forecast is a probability, not a promise
SnowReport reads the same numerical weather models used by national forecasters (via Open-Meteo) and translates them into one clear answer: is it snowing, when will it start, and how much will fall. Three habits make the report trustworthy:
- Every claim carries a confidence tag. High means at least 70% of model guidance produces precipitation in that hour; low means under 40%. A "low confidence" dump is a lottery ticket, not a plan.
- Accumulation is a range. We show the raw model total and a probability-weighted floor. If the report says 4–9 cm, packing for 6 is smarter than promising anyone 9.
- Elevation is everything. The freezing level tells you where rain turns to snow. A valley at +2 °C can sit an hour below a summit at −6 °C. For mountains, check the Ski Meter, which reads the model at both base and summit altitude.
